Mini hydraulic power pack

Many people wonder: what is a hydraulic power unit?

To answer this question simply and clearly, a hydraulic power unit is part of a hydraulic system that moves the fluid and generates energy. It plays an essential role in hydraulics and represents a specific type of power transmission system. It controls the energy of pressurised moving fluids and converts it into mechanical energy.

Hydraulic systems are used in a wide range of applications, making hydraulic power units essential in many commercial, industrial and consumer environments.

Hydraulic pumps are key components of hydraulic power units. They differ from pneumatic pumps, which use compressed gas. A hydraulic pump is generally integrated into a hydraulic power unit, a self-contained system made up of a motor, a fluid reservoir and a pump. Together, these components generate rotary or linear movement, or mechanical force, by transferring hydraulic energy through pressurised fluid. Depending on the application, the system may also include pressure control, filtration and temperature management.

A motor pump unit is therefore an assembly of hydraulic components designed to power equipment such as manual valves, tipper trailers, lift tables, car lifts and hydraulic cylinders. These hydraulic power units can be configured in different ways, including single-acting or double-acting versions, and can be powered by electric or pneumatic motors.

One of the most popular types of mini hydraulic power pack is the electric hydraulic power unit, which uses an electric motor to drive the pump. These hydraulic power units are available in single-phase or three-phase versions. A wide range of voltage and pressure options is available, including 110 V configurations and high-pressure hydraulic systems up to 10,000 psi.

How Does a Hydraulic Power Unit Work?

A mini hydraulic power pack is a self-contained system that uses hydraulic fluid in a closed circuit to transfer energy and create rotary or linear force. The pressurisation process is generated by the pump and controlled through hydraulic components designed to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation.

The operating principle of a hydraulic power unit is based on the fact that fluids are almost incompressible, allowing force and movement to be transmitted very efficiently. According to Pascal’s principle, pressure applied to a fluid is transmitted equally in all directions. This means that hydraulic systems can multiply force as pressure acts across different surface areas.

Hydraulic systems can use different fluids as a means of power transmission, but hydraulic oil is the most commonly used solution because it provides lubrication, protection and stable performance within the system. These characteristics allow hydraulic power units and mini hydraulic power packs to generate significant mechanical force with limited physical effort.

Different Types of Compact Hydraulic Power Units

There are several types of mini hydraulic power packs, each with its own structure and specific purpose. Common types include:

MINI CENTRALE HYDRAULIQUE 12V et MINI CENTRALE HYDRAULIQUE 24V

The main difference between a 12V mini hydraulic power pack and a 24V hydraulic power unitis their voltage level, which influences the electrical power available to drive the system.

24 V hydraulic power units generally offer better performance and are often better suited to applications requiring higher duty cycles or heavier loads. 12 V mini hydraulic power packs are usually more suitable for smaller, simpler or mobile applications where compactness and ease of installation are important.

However, the actual performance of each hydraulic power unit also depends on other key factors, such as motor power, pump displacement, flow rate, pressure setting and tank capacity.

220V Hydraulic Power Unit and 380V Mini Hydraulic Power Pack

OCGF manufactures 220V hydraulic power units. A 220 V mini hydraulic power pack is a unit that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to power hydraulic equipment and machinery. The 220 volts refer to the nominal supply voltage required to operate the hydraulic power unit.

A 220 V hydraulic power unit and a 380 V mini hydraulic power pack refer to two different types of hydraulic systems with different voltage levels. The 220 V hydraulic power unit is generally used for smaller applications with lower power requirements, while the 380 V hydraulic power unit is designed for larger and more demanding applications requiring higher power.

The choice between a 220 V and a 380 V hydraulic power unit depends on the specific needs, operating conditions and technical requirements of the application.

Double-Acting vs Single-Acting Hydraulic Power Units

A double-acting hydraulic power unit is designed to operate a double-acting hydraulic cylinder. It supplies hydraulic pressure in both directions, allowing the cylinder to extend and retract under hydraulic control. This type of hydraulic power unit is commonly used for applications requiring controlled movement in both directions, higher precision and better control of the hydraulic actuator.

A single-acting hydraulic power unit is designed to operate a single-acting hydraulic cylinder. It supplies hydraulic pressure in one direction only, usually to extend the cylinder. The return movement is generally achieved by gravity, spring force or the weight of the load. This type of mini hydraulic power pack is often simpler, more compact and more cost-effective.

In summary, the choice between a double-acting and a single-acting hydraulic power unit depends on the application, the required movement, the load, the level of control needed and the technical constraints of the hydraulic system.

OCGF has already supported its customers in the design and assembly of:

  • 220 V double-acting hydraulic power units
  • 12 V double-acting hydraulic power units
  • 12 V single-acting mini hydraulic power packs
  • 24 V single-acting mini hydraulic power packs
  • 12 V double-acting mini hydraulic power packs
  • 24 V double-acting mini hydraulic power packs

Compact Hydraulic Power Unit : Applications

Hydraulic power units are used in a wide range of applications across several industries. For example, a 12 V DC hydraulic power unit, which uses a 12-volt direct current power supply to operate the pump, can be used for tipper trucks. These units are commonly used in mobile hydraulic applications.

Here are a few examples:

Hydraulic Power Unit for Tractor PTO

A tractor PTO hydraulic power unit is, as its name suggests, commonly used in the agricultural sector with tractors. A PTO hydraulic power unit is a hydraulic system designed to transfer mechanical power from the tractor engine to external equipment, such as a wood saw, a tipping trailer or a forage trailer.

It is generally installed on an agricultural tractor to power various farming machines and attachments. The system is driven by the tractor’s PTO, Power Take-Off, and may include a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic motor, a transmission shaft, a hydraulic reservoir and a control unit, depending on the required configuration.
